A paging file is a special file on the hard disk that is designed to record parts of running programs and files that do not fit in RAM. The size of this file can be customized based on your own needs.
Instructions
Step 1
Typically, the operating system automatically monitors the paging file size. If the system warns about a lack of virtual memory, then the size of this file must be increased forcibly, or the amount of RAM must be increased. To change the size of the paging file, open the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel". In the window that opens, click on the link "All elements of the control panel", then "System". Select the "Advanced system settings" menu item.
Step 2
The System Properties window will open. Go to the "Advanced" tab. Click the Options button in the Performance section. In the "Performance Settings" window that opens, go to the "Advanced" tab. Click the Change … button in the Virtual Memory section.
Step 3
In the "Virtual memory" window that opens, uncheck the "Automatically select paging file size" checkbox, then select the disk on which you want to place the paging file. In the fields "Maximum size" and "Original size" specify the required values for the generated file and click OK.
Step 4
If, as a result of changes to the paging file, its size has been reduced, then a window will appear with a message about the need to reboot the system, click OK three times. In the Microsoft Windows window, click the Restart Now button.
