The paging file of the Windows operating system is a special hidden file, which by default is stored on the same disk with the system files. It is used to record parts of running programs that do not fit into RAM.
Instructions
Step 1
To increase the performance of the computer, the paging file can be moved to another partition on the hard disk.
Start the computer using an administrator account.
Step 2
Open the main Start menu and launch Control Panel. In the window that opens, follow the link "Performance and Maintenance", then select the "System" item.
Step 3
The System Properties window will open. Go to the "Advanced" tab, in the "Performance" group, click "Options".
Step 4
In the Performance Options window, go to the Advanced tab and click Change.
Step 5
The Virtual Memory window will display a list of all available hard disk partitions.
To increase the size of the paging file, allocate the drive where Windows is installed.
Step 6
Select the Custom Size radio button. In the "Initial size" field, enter the value recommended by the system (it is indicated in the "Total paging file size on all disks" section), in the "Maximum size" field, arbitrarily set the maximum amount of space allocated for the paging file, click the "Set" button.
Step 7
If you want to move the paging file to another partition, then select the partition where Windows is installed, select the "No paging file" radio button, and then click "Set". If a warning appears, click Yes.
Step 8
Select another disk partition, for example D. Select the "Custom size" radio button, in the "Maximum size" and "Initial size" fields, specify the amount of computer memory or more. Click the "Set" button.
Close all windows, consistently agreeing with all the changes and restart your computer.
