To install the operating system, you must have a bootable disk. However, there is a special procedure that allows you to install Linux from a partition on your hard disk. You need to create a 10GB partition and have an iso image of the Linux Mandriva installation disk.
Necessary
- - the Internet;
- - computer;
- - browser;
- - Linux OS.
Instructions
Step 1
Create a Boot folder on the C: drive and copy the vmlinuz and all.rdz files from the image into it by opening it in the Total Commander or Alcohol program. Copy all files carefully, as missing files can severely damage the system, or not load it at all.
Step 2
Find it on the Internet using a search engine and download the grub bootloader to the hard drive. Unpack the bootloader folder and copy the grub folder, grub.exe and initrd files to the previously created Boot. Find the grldr file in the same place and copy it to the C: drive, to the root. Everything is done manually, since the installation is done from the hard drive, and not from the installation one. This method is a little difficult, but useful in cases where the computer does not have a drive.
Step 3
Edit the boot.ini file located at the root of the C: drive by adding the line C: / grldr = "Linux-Install" to it. To open the boot.ini file for editing, use a regular Notepad. It is installed on the computer by default.
Step 4
Add the following lines to the C: / boot / grab / menu.lst file (you can also do this with Notepad):
title Mandriva ISO install (using vmlinuz and all.rdz)
kernel (hd0, 0) / boot / vmlinuz
initrd (hd0, 0) /boot/all.rdz
Step 5
It remains only to start installing the new operating system. Send your computer to reboot. At the time of choosing the boot options, select Linux - Install. This command is intended to automatically install the operating system.
Step 6
Installing an operating system from a hard drive will save you optical media. Pay attention to what kind of Linux you are going to install: this affects the algorithm of actions. In general, we can say that the installation of the Linux operating system will not take much time, the main thing is to copy all the files correctly so that the system works correctly.
