Sometimes it becomes necessary to connect more than one computer to the Internet, but a whole network at once. This can be multiple connected home computers or a small business corporate network.
Necessary
To connect a network of computers to the Internet, you need a special device - a "router" or "router"
Instructions
Step 1
Connect your router to the internet. Please note that a router always has several ethernet ports for connecting computers to it. These ports are labeled LAN. But one port is always labeled differently as WAN. It is to this port that you need to connect the ISP's Internet cable.
Step 2
Connect the router to the network via the LAN port. If there are few computers on the network, you can connect each of them to a different port. If there are more computers than ports on the router, then you can connect the network by connecting any LAN port of the router with any network switch with a cable.
Step 3
By default, routers have a local IP address 192.168.0.1. Type this address in the browser line of any of the computers on the network. The router settings window will open. Configure the router. Assign an external IP, netmask, DNS and gateway provided by your ISP to connect to the Internet. On the "status" tab, a message should appear stating that the router is connected.
Step 4
On computers on your network, open network connections. Select the properties of the local area connection. In the properties window that opens, select the TCP / IP Internet protocol setting. Assign the local address of the router (192.168.0.1) as a gateway to connect to the Internet. The DNS of local computers will be the same as the DNS of a router issued by the provider, the subnet mask of the computer does not change when the Internet is connected.
