To connect a computer to a local network or to the Internet, it is necessary that a network card (adapter) be present in the system unit devices. Most often, motherboard manufacturers integrate such a device into their products, but there are cases when the built-in network card does not satisfy the user's request regarding the connection speed.

Instructions

Step 1

Built-in network adapters are widespread, but like sound cards, they have a number of limitations compared to adapters that are purchased separately. Recently, new items in the field of network cards have begun to appear - adapters with a USB interface. Such motherboards have advantages: you do not have to open the system unit if it is sealed. This saves time that you would spend installing a regular PCI adapter. But there is also a drawback: the network bandwidth is low, because the execution of operations through a special port (PCI) is much faster.

Step 2

PCI adapters are installed in one of the free slots for PCI devices. Before installing the adapter, you need to remove the cover opposite the PCI slot you have chosen. Turn the system unit back to you, press down on the cover with your thumb. If the plug does not lend itself, then use the "+" screwdriver - on the plug you will see a special hole for a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 3

Open the side wall of your system unit. Take the network adapter in your hands, plug it into the PCI slot of your choice. Check that the adapter is securely fastened. Secure the adapter with the bolt on the left side. Close the side cover of the system unit. Connect the network cable to the new adapter. If a disc was included with the adapter, then install the drivers. Otherwise, no driver installation is required.
