You may need to activate the USB port when you perform the operation of connecting and removing a USB device several times in a row with short breaks. The port in such cases stops responding, the device is not recognized, and the job cannot be performed. The solution to the problem is feasible with standard tools of the Windows operating system.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "Run" item to launch the command line tool to perform the operation of updating the hardware configuration using the device manager.
Step 2
Enter devmgmt.msc in the Open field and click OK to start the Device Manager utility.
Step 3
Specify the computer name in the application window that opens and select "Update hardware configuration" from the "Action" menu.
Step 4
If the problem persists, restart your computer and re-check the USB port functionality.
Step 5
Return to the main Start menu and go to Run to disable and re-enable the USB controller.
Step 6
Enter devmgmt.msc in the Open field and click OK to launch the Device Manager tool.
Step 7
Expand the link "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" b open the context menu by right-clicking on the field of the first USB controller.
Step 8
Select the Delete command and repeat this process for all USB controllers in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section.
Step 9
Restart your computer and check the USB port function.
Step 10
Return to the main Start menu and go to Run to perform the operation to temporarily disable USB by modifying the registry.

Enter regedit in the Open box and click OK to launch the Registry Editor tool.

Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesUSB branch and select (or create) the DisableSelectiveSuspend parameter with a double mouse click.
Step 13
Enter a value of 1 in the Value field to disable the temporary disable function and click the OK button to apply the selected changes.
Step 14
Select (or create) the Start parameter by double clicking and enter a value of 3 to activate the selected USB port.
Step 15
Click OK to confirm the command and restart your computer to apply the selected changes.
