In English-speaking countries, the word caret is used for the name of the label that indicates the entry position of the next character in text and other editors, and a pointer controlled with a mouse is denoted by the word pointer. However, Russian-speaking computer users use a single word for both of these pointers - "cursor". One of the parameters of that of the cursors, which indicates the place of entering the next text character, is its width ("boldness").
Instructions
Step 1
In many programs, it is possible to enable the kind of cursor that was used in monitors with a very small number of pixels per unit of screen area. This limitation of the monitor's capabilities forced the cursor to be displayed as a wide rectangle to make it more visible. As a rule, in the vast majority of applications where this type of cursor can be used, the same "hot key" is used to switch between its standard and rectangular shapes - press the Insert key, and the input cursor will take its usual form.
Step 2
If one of the "accessibility" options of the operating system is enabled in the computer, which increases the size of the cursor for more comfortable work of people with low vision, then you can return to normal view using the OS control panel. Press the Win key and select Control Panel from the main menu. In the window of this component, find and activate the "Ease of Access Center" section, and in it, click the "Facilitate Mouse Operation" link. In the table "Mouse pointers" of the opened page, check the box opposite the standard version of the presentation of input cursors and mouse pointer - it is the first in the list and is marked with the inscription "Plain white". Then click the OK button, and the change made in the OS settings will take effect.
Step 3
You can make the necessary amendment directly to the Windows registry - for example, if the cursor width was changed with the help of some "tweaker", which is no longer possible to use. To do this, start the Registry Editor - press the key combination Ctrl + R, enter the regedit command and click the OK button. After starting the program, press the F3 key - this will bring up the registry search dialog. Enter the name of the key that sets the width of the input cursor - CaretWidth. Click on the OK button and wait for the search procedure to complete (it may take several tens of seconds). Right-click the line found by the editor in the registry and select Edit from the context menu. In the "Value" field of the form that opens, specify the cursor width that suits you in pixels (the minimum allowable value is one). Then click OK and close Registry Editor.
