The most convenient way to split a large file into parts is to use any of the data archiving programs. Most of them are able to pack files into multivolume archives, which, upon subsequent unpacking, will be automatically reassembled into a file (or files) of the original size. An additional convenience of this option lies in the fact that the file will not only be divided into parts, but the total weight of the volumes may also be less than the original size.

Instructions

Step 1

You can use the popular WinRar archiver. If it is already installed on your system, then right-clicking on the file you want to split will provide several commands for packing data in the context menu. Select the one named "Add to Archive …".

Step 2

This command will start the archiver and, by default, will open the settings window on the "General" tab. At the very bottom of this window, find the drop-down list next to the inscription "Divide into volumes in size (in bytes)" - in this list you need to indicate what size the file should be split into. There are several options here, and if none of them is suitable, then you can print your value. The size you need can be specified in bytes, megabytes (for example, 25 m), in millions of bytes (for example, 25 M), kilobytes (500 k), thousand bytes (500 K). Pay attention - here the register of designation of units of measurement matters.

Step 3

After specifying the sizes of the parts, click the "OK" button to start the process. As a result, the original file will remain unchanged, but the archive volumes of the sizes you specified will appear in the same folder. The file names will be the same as the original, but the extension will be replaced with rar, and the number of this part of the archive will be added before it (for example, bigFile.part0001.rar, bigFile.part0002.rar, etc.).

Step 4

If the file to be split is a rar-archive, then the sequence of actions will be different. You need to open this archive by double-clicking, or by highlighting and pressing Enter. The archiver will start, in the menu of which open the "Operations" section and click the "Convert archive" item. You can do the same without using a mouse - press the key combination alt="Image" + Q.

Step 5

In the window that opens, click the "Compress" button - this will open the same "General" tab that we described above. Then you need to act in the same way as in the case of a regular, not packed file - set the desired size of the split and start the process by clicking the "OK" button.
