By default, the Microsoft Windows operating system provides the user with the ability to choose the appearance of the folder display from the folder icon and picture. The first time you start the OS, the classic view is automatically applied. You can change the way the folder is displayed using settings. After applying the changes, Windows will remember them and will use them the next time you open the folder.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the Start button and select All Programs.
Step 2
Open "Accessories" and go to "File Explorer".
Step 3
Find the folder whose display settings require changing in the "Explorer" window that opens.
Step 4
Select the "Properties" command by right-clicking on the folder icon and go to the "Settings" tab.
Step 5
Set the options for the folder display as desired.
Step 6
Define the template you want using the "Use the following folder as template" list. This is necessary to define viewing options and links to some special tasks (mainly when working with music and graphics files). Uncheck the box next to Apply the same template to all subfolders.
Step 7
Select a picture to be attributed to the folder by clicking the "Select Picture" button. Remember that if the icon is not selected, Windows uses (or creates) the default pictures based on the Folder.
Step 8
Click the Change Icon button to choose how this folder is displayed. Any file stored in a folder with ICO or EXE extensions is allowed. It is also possible to use program library files with the DLL extension. Failure to select a folder icon causes Windows to automatically use the default settings.
