Instructions

Step 1

First of all, it should be said that it is almost impossible to simply prohibit copying a file, although such information protection developments are currently underway.

Step 2

One of the options for protecting files from copying can be blocking the ability to use flash drives. Then other users simply will not have a chance to copy the file to their storage medium. And for this you need to introduce a ban on the use of USB-devices. Enter the string Usbstor.pnf in the search for "My Computer". After the system finds this file, enter the line Usbstor.inf there.

Step 3

Click on the found Usbstor.pnf file with the right mouse button and select "Properties" in the menu that appears. Then repeat the same action with the Usbstor.inf file, then in the properties of both files select the "Security" tab, and in it - the "Groups and Users" component. From the list of users, select those for whom you want to block the ability to copy files to a USB flash drive. To do this, opposite the "Full access" line, put a check mark in the "Deny" item. Now the system blocks the ability to use flash drives for these users.

Step 4

Also restrict access to the files themselves and make them hidden. To do this, select the file or folder with files you need and click on it with the right mouse button. Opposite the line "Attributes" check the box next to the word "Hidden". Then click "Apply" and OK.

Step 5

Then press F1. This will bring up the help menu. In the search for this menu, enter "Folder Options". From the results obtained, select the sequence "Change folder properties" - "Open dialog box" - "View". Drag the slider to the very bottom of the window. Then select "Do not show hidden files and folders".

Step 6

Now all your "Hidden" files cannot be seen on the computer. In this way, you restrict access to the file itself and, accordingly, reduce the likelihood of other users copying it.
