Step 1
Purchase a licensed disc with the Windows XP operating system. Microsoft is currently releasing special editions of the operating system for notebook computers. When choosing a suitable option, pay attention to the technical characteristics of the machine. Usually Windows XP Professional with SP3 preinstalled will be more than enough for any device. Save all important data to portable media if the laptop already has an operating system in order to avoid losing it in the future.
Step 2
Insert the CD-ROM into the drive and reboot the device. Press the Delete key to enter the BIOS menu. Launch the tab for selecting the system start parameters. Set the function of reading information from CD / DVD in the first place, and put the boot from the hard disk (HDD) in the second. Save your changes by pressing F10 and then Y to reboot.
Step 3
Wait for the installation program to start from the disk. Next, you will see a menu for selecting a partition to boot the system. Specify the C: / drive as the desired location. You can also create the required number of additional partitions on the hard drive. Press F to format the selected area. Remember that this will erase all data on the hard drive. As soon as the formatting is done, the computer will restart.
Step 4
Follow the further installation of the system, which will proceed in automatic mode. Only once in the process will you be asked to provide an account name and come up with a password to log into it.
Step 5
Go to your laptop manufacturer's website once the installation is complete and download the latest drivers for your motherboard, video card, and sound card. Activate the system by entering in a special window that launches in the tray, the license code located on the cover of the Windows XP disc.
