The operation of restoring a replaced or deleted file is carried out in the Windows Vista operating system by using special restore points created by the system restore service without the involvement of additional third-party software.

Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "Computer" item to perform the operation to enable the system recovery service. Please remember that creating restore points requires at least 300 MB of hard disk space and cannot be used on volumes with the FAT32 file system.

Call the context menu by right-clicking on the "Computer" icon and open the "Properties" link.
Step 3
Specify "Advanced system settings" and go to the "System protection" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 4
Apply the checkboxes in the fields of the drives to enable the system recovery service and click OK to confirm your choice.
Step 5
Click the New button in the System Properties window to manually set a restore point and enter a name that identifies the created restore point in the Create Restore Point dialog box that appears.

Click the "Create" button to confirm the execution of the command.
Step 7
Determine the name and location of the folder containing the replaced file or the replaced folder and navigate to it.
Step 8
Call the context menu of the existing version of the file by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item.

Go to the Previous Versions tab and click the Restore button.
Step 10
Return to the main "Start" menu and go to the "Computer" item if it is impossible to determine the name and location of the lured file or folder.
Step 11
Specify the disk on which the modified file or folder was located, and call the service menu by right-clicking on its icon.
Step 12
Expand the Properties link and go to the Previous Versions tab.
Step 13
Find the file or folder you are looking for by browsing the contents of the folders of the selected volume and recover the replaced file or folder.
