After Microsoft released the Vista operating system, many computers were sold with the operating system already installed on the hard drive. Meanwhile, Vista never became a popular and demanded OS. Users either preferred the good old Windows XP, or eventually moved on to the more sophisticated and optimized Windows 7 operating system. If you bought a computer with Vista installed, you will probably want to uninstall it and install a different operating system.
Necessary
- - Computer with Windows Vista;
- - boot disk with Windows OS;
- - Daemon Tools Lite program
Instructions
Step 1
In order to format a hard disk partition with Vista operating system installed, you will need a boot disk with any other operating system. If you don't have a bootable disk, you can create one yourself. To do this, first download from the Internet the image of the operating system that you will install after uninstalling Vista, then - the Daemon Tools Lite application. The program is completely free. Install it on your computer and restart it.
Step 2
Then insert the blank disc into your computer's drive. Then click on the operating system image file with the right mouse button and select "Burn image to disk". After completing the process, you will have a bootable operating system disk.
Step 3
Restart your computer and press the F5 key several times continuously (alternatively, it could be F12). The computer start selection menu appears. From this list, select your optical drive and press Enter. The disk with the operating system will spin up, after which the process of copying files to the computer's RAM will begin.
Step 4
Now you need to act depending on which operating system you are using the boot disk with. If it's Windows XP, press Enter in the first dialog box. The license agreement will appear in the next dialog box. If you wish, you can read it. Press F8 to continue. In the next window, press Esc.
Step 5
A window with hard disk partitions will appear. Select the partition where Vista is installed and press the Enter key. A window will appear in which you will be asked to format the hard disk partition. Select "Format with NTFS" and press the F key. The Vista partition is now fully formatted. You can install a new OS.
Step 6
If you have a bootable disk with Windows 7, then in the first window left-click on the section where Vista is installed. Then from the bottom in the program window select the "Format disk" command.
