You can change the welcome page in Windows XP with a small, free, third-party program. This operation will require minimal computer system skills and a little attention from the user.
Necessary
- - Windows XP;
- - ResourceHacker.
Instructions
Step 1
Create a backup copy of the logonui.exe file located in the system folder C: / Windows / system32 to be able to restore the original settings in case of problems.
Step 2
Download the free Resourcehacker utility and extract the Reshacker folder from the downloaded archive.
Step 3
Double-click the ResHacker.exe file icon to start the program and open the File menu in the top toolbar of the application window.
Step 4
Go to the Open item and select the C: / Windows / system32 / directory in the Open File Containing Resource dialog box that opens.
Step 5
Specify the logonui.exe file and click Open.
Step 6
Expand the String Table link in the list on the left side of the program window and go to 1.
Step 7
Select the link 1049 and look for the word "Welcome" in the list of contents on the right side of the application window.
Step 8
Replace the found word "Greeting" with the desired word or phrase, keeping the quotes and click the Complete Script button at the top of the program window.
Step 9
Return to the File menu and select the Save command to apply your changes.
Step 10
Go back to the logonui.exe file menu in the ResourceHacker application to change the default background image and expand the Bitmap link in the list on the left side of the program window.
Step 11
Go to step 100 and expand link 1049 to display the current background of the welcome screen.
Step 12
Select Replace Bitmap from the Action menu of the top toolbar of the ResourceHacker application window and click the Open File With New Bitmap button.
Step 13
Specify the desired BMP image file in the search dialog box that opens and click the "Open" button.
Step 14
Click the Replace button to display the selected welcome screen background and press Ctrl + S to save your changes.
Step 15
Restart your computer to apply the changes.
