If you need to transfer a video file from a computer to a phone, smartphone, PDA or other mobile device, you definitely need to know its format. If the video file is not supported by the device you are about to dump it to, it will not play. Therefore, before transferring the file, it will need to be converted into a suitable format.
Necessary
- - a computer with Windows OS;
- - video file;
- - a set of codecs K-Lite Codec Pack.
Instructions
Step 1
Download the K-Lite Codec Pack from the Internet. It is completely free and includes the necessary codecs to play all video file formats. In addition, the codec package contains a player with which you can find out the formats of the video files you are interested in. You need to download codecs specifically for your version of the operating system, otherwise they may not install, and if they are installed, they may not work correctly. Install the codec pack on your computer. Reboot your computer.
Step 2
Left-click on the video file, the format of which you want to know. In the context menu that appears, select the "Open With" command and select Media Player Classic Home Cinema from the list of players. If such a player does not appear in the context menu, then in the same menu there is a line "Select program". Select it and specify the path to the player. The player is located in the folder where you installed the codec pack. Select it to open the file.
Step 3
When the video starts playing, pause it by pressing pause (space). Now select File from the top in the program window. An additional menu will open. In it, select the Properties parameter. A new window will open in which select the MediaInfo tab. Drag the slider down until the Video section appears. Now in this section, find the Format line, opposite it and the video file format is indicated. You can also find out the bit rate of the video file, the version of the codec you need for playback, and other parameters.
Step 4
You can also find out the video format using the KMPlayer player. Open the video file with the player. In the playback window, right-click and select "Recording Information". Then find the Video and Format section. Next to it will be information about the file format.
