The need to install a hard disk can arise in two cases: you want to install a larger disk, or the one that is installed on your computer is out of order and you want to replace it. In both cases, you need to know how to properly install a hard drive in a stationary computer.
Necessary
- - computer;
- - screwdriver;
- - new hard drive.
Instructions
Step 1
Turn off the computer, disconnect it physically from the network and disconnect all wires that go out of the system unit. This can be a keyboard wire, mouse wire, printer, etc.
Step 2
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws and remove the side cover. The cover must be removed from the side opposite to the side where the motherboard is located.
Step 3
If you are wearing woolen clothes, then before touching any parts of the computer with your hands, first touch the system unit anywhere. By doing this, you neutralize the static electricity that is on you. If this static goes to the parts of the computer, you run the risk of damaging part of the computer.
Step 4
Disconnect the hard drive power supply and disconnect the cable from the connector (SATA or IDE). If the hard drive is additionally attached to the case, then unscrew all the screws with which it is screwed to the system unit.
Step 5
Pull out the hard drive carefully. Insert a new one in its place. Replace the screws you removed in the previous step. Connect the hard drive to the power and connector.
Step 6
Put back the side cover of the system unit and secure it. Turn on your computer. One short beep should be heard - motherboard identification. If you hear something different or don't hear anything, then most likely you did something wrong. If everything is correct, then the newly installed HDD should be correctly detected by the motherboard. You can check this information by going to the BIOS.
