The AutoCorrect feature allows you to correct typos and spelling mistakes in words. Also, the setting allows using hot keys to insert various symbols and fragments into the text. In this case, the autocorrect list can be edited through the built-in Word tools.

Modifying the AutoCorrect List

To edit the auto-substitution and error correction list in Word, use the appropriate Word preference. To do this, go to the "File" tab or click on the Office icon if you are using a version of Word 2007. Go to the item "Options" - "Spelling". Among the options provided, click AutoCorrect Options. Go to the "AutoCorrect" tab and check the box next to "Replace as you type."

Edit the list suggested in the window. Click on the entry you want to change, and it will be moved to the "Replace" section. In the "On" field, specify the parameter to which you want to change the highlighted word, then press the "Replace" key and start editing other words. After completing the changes, click "OK". The auto-substitution list is complete.

Similarly, you can rename existing entries in the auto-replace list. To do this, click on the required entry, after which it will reappear in the "Replace" section. Click the Delete button and then enter a new name for the entry in the appropriate field. After completing editing, click "Add" and "OK" to apply the changes.

Adding your own entry to the list

Go to File> Options> Spelling> AutoCorrect Options. Select the Replace As You Type check box on the menu list. Go to the "Replace" field and enter the phrase or that you want to add to the list. For example, write down the words that you make the most mistakes or typos. In the adjacent "On" field, indicate the correct spelling of the word being corrected. After completing the operation, press the "Add" button, and then the "OK" button to apply the changes.

The AutoCorrect list is the same for all applications that are included in the Microsoft Office package installed in the system. Thus, adding a new auto-substitution entry in Word activates support for this word in other available programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). Deleting an AutoCorrect list entry in one of these programs will affect other applications as well. Also, you can use the automatic substitution option not only to replace words, but also to insert the necessary phrases or symbols that you often use when working with a computer.
