An electronic document is any file that contains text, images, or other data. Such documents are created and processed using programs that support the corresponding formats.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose the right software for creating your electronic document. For example, if you want to create a text-only file, select KWrite or Geany (on Linux) or Notepad (on Windows), a complex text document - Abiword, OpenOffice.org Writer, Microsoft Office Word, bitmap graphics document - Mtpaint, Paint, GIMP, spreadsheet - Gnumeric, OpenOffice.org Calc, Microsoft Office Excel, etc.
Step 2
Make sure you have the software you need to create an electronic document of the desired format on your computer. If not already, install it.
Step 3
Start the program of your choice.
Step 4
If a blank document is not automatically created in the program after starting the program, choose New or similar from the File menu, or press the Control and N keys at the same time.
Step 5
If you are prompted to select a document type, specify an image size, etc., enter the appropriate information. If you are then immediately prompted to specify a file name, enter it.
Step 6
If the file is not already titled, choose Save As from the File menu, or press Control + S, then select a folder and enter a file name. Select its type immediately if the program supports multiple file types.
Step 7
Save the file periodically in the future. To do this, use the "Save" item in the "File" menu, or the above-mentioned keyboard shortcut Control + S. The more often you save the file, the less likely you are to lose information in the event of a sudden power outage of your computer.
Step 8
After you finish working with a document, be sure to save it before exiting, even if you periodically performed saving while working with it. However, if you forget to do this, the program will remind you of this and offer to save the changes. After starting the program again, select the document in the list of last processed or press Ctrl + O or select the "Open" item from the "File" menu, then select the folder and file.
