Photoshop is the most popular application for creating and editing bitmap graphics among both hobbyists and professionals. Therefore, a lot of users of this program are engaged in the creation of filters with additional effects, and sometimes really useful ones come across among their developments. Installing filters in Photoshop, which are distributed in plug-in format, is a fairly simple task.
Instructions
Step 1
Download and save the file with the required filter somewhere on your computer. If it is packed into an archive, extract all the files and find out their format. The extension by which Photoshop recognizes plugins is 8bf. If the saved file is in this format, you need to place it in the folder where the graphics editor stores its plugins.
Step 2
The easiest way to get to the desired folder is with a shortcut or menu item that you launch Photoshop. To do this, click the icon on the desktop or an item in the menu with the right mouse button and select the lowest line in the context menu - "Properties". The properties window will open on the "Shortcut" tab, where in the lower left corner you will find the "File Location" button - click it. As a result, a separate instance of "Explorer" will start and open the root folder where the graphical editor is installed.
Step 3
Scroll the list of objects in this directory to the very beginning and expand the Plug-Ins folder - this is where additional filters are stored. Copy your new plugin with the 8bf extension here too. Photoshop scans this directory at startup, so if the application is currently running, restart it and the new plug-in will appear in the Filter section of the application menu.
Step 4
If the filter was not created by an amateur, but by some company, it is likely that it will not be distributed in 8bf format, but together with the installer. In this case, the file you saved will have the exe extension, and to install the plugin, it will be enough to run it like any other executable file. Double click the object and the installation wizard will start working. Installers can be different - some will determine the location of the desired folder and place the plug-in file in it without any questions, others will work in dialog mode, demanding confirmation of their actions. In any case, after completing the process, do not forget to restart the graphics editor before looking for a new filter in it.
