Step 1
There are three main steps you need to take to replace a processor in a laptop. First, find a suitable new processor. Secondly, almost completely dismantle the laptop. Thirdly, after rearranging the processor, assemble the laptop. The most difficult part is disassembling a laptop, as it will require you to be careful and attentive. Plus, for most laptops, replacing the processor means taking it all apart.
Step 2
Before starting to disassemble a laptop, download the manual for its repair and maintenance from the manufacturer's website. In it, in the pictures, you can see exactly how you need to dismantle all the components, while observing the precautions. Also, prepare suitable screwdrivers in advance (depending on the computer model, they can be both Phillips and asterisks, and they can also be combined in the same laptop) and thermal paste, which must be applied for cooling when installing a new processor.
Step 3
To replace the processor in a laptop, power off the computer. Disconnect all external devices connected to it. Remove the battery.
Step 4
Loosen the mounting screws and remove the components from the laptop one by one. Their order and composition may vary depending on the model, but in general, adhere to the following dismantling procedure after removing the bottom cover:
• HDD
• Optical disc drive
• Keyboard
• Panel with speakers
• Display
• Top cover located under the keyboard.
Step 5
After that, to replace the processor in the laptop, remove the cooling system and release the old processor from the mount. After installing the new processor in its place, apply thermal grease. Reassemble the laptop in reverse order.
