The operating system has a function to enable and disable the display of hidden files. It is also possible to hide protected system files. On different Windows operating systems, this feature can be enabled or disabled.
Instructions
Step 1
There are two ways to disable the display of hidden files and folders in the Windows XP operating system. Open any folder. On the top menu bar, select the "Tools" menu item, then "Folder Options". The dialog box opens to the General tab. Go to the "View" tab.

In the "Advanced Options" field, scroll down the list. Find the item "Hidden files and folders". Put a value on the desired item - "Do not show hidden files and folders", "Show hidden files and folders". If you need to display all hidden files, it is also recommended to uncheck the "Hide protected system files (recommended)" checkbox. Then click the "Apply" and "Ok" buttons.

You can also open "Folder Options" by clicking on the "Start" menu, in the right column "Control Panel" and then "Folder Options". If you have a classic view of the Start menu, click on "Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel" - "Folder Options".
Step 4
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, go to any folder. In the top menu, select "Arrange". In the drop-down menu, click on Folder and Search Options. The window will open on the "General" tab. Go to the "View" tab. Scroll down and check the box you want.

If you are better versed in computers than an ordinary user, you can change this function in the values of the system registry. To do this, click on "Start" - "Run". Type the command regedit. The "Registry Editor" window will open.
Step 6
You need to change three parameters. The first Hidden parameter is in the branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced.

The second CheckedValue is in the branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvancedFolderHiddenSHOWALL.
Step 8
The third parameter SuperHidden is in the branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced.
Step 9
To show hidden files, you need to set all parameters to 1. To disable showing hidden files and folders, you need to set the value to 0.
