Any medium of electronic information requires formatting - preparation for recording certain data. Both hard drives and flash drives and CDs require formatting. Before you burn any information onto a DVD, you must prepare it for burning. There are several ways to format discs, and their choice depends on the type of disc, as well as on how exactly the disc will be read in the future.
Instructions
Step 1
Insert the disc into the DVD-ROM and select the "Burn files to disc" option in the Windows window or disc burning program. Enter a name for the new disk, and then click on the "Show formatting options" button.
Step 2
Choose from two options - Live or Mastered. These parameters differ in the types of file system in which the disk is formatted. Disks formatted with the Live file system support manual dragging and dropping of files from the computer to the disk. This format is suitable for rewritable discs, as it allows you to delete some files from the disc and replace them with new ones without erasing all other information.
Step 3
Burning such discs is very simple, the recording does not require extra time, but such discs can only be played in modern versions of Windows - starting from XP and higher. To burn a Live disc, select the LFS file system for recording.
Step 4
Mastered discs are more difficult to record, but this format is more convenient if you need to burn a large amount of files to disc at the same time. This type of disc is reproduced not only on new, but also on outdated versions of operating systems.
Step 5
The formatting of a disk also directly depends on its type. If you want to burn DVD-R or DVD + R discs, remember that such discs can be formatted once - after burning, you cannot delete or replace the data on the disc. Rewritable DVD-RW and DVD + RW discs can be formatted multiple times using the quick format function.
