After the appearance of the graphical shell in operating systems, the mouse became an almost indispensable device for controlling the operation of system and application programs. Over time, there are more ways to connect this device to a computer, as well as methods to disconnect it.
Instructions
Step 1
If you need to disconnect a mouse connected through the PS / 2 port, then the most radical solution would be to disconnect it from the socket on the rear panel of the system unit. Do this with the computer turned off - this is the recommendation from the manufacturer of the operating system. However, as a rule, disconnecting the mouse while the computer is on does not cause the OS to malfunction, this only happens during the reverse operation - connecting.
Step 2
To disconnect a mouse working via a USB port, feel free to pull the plug out of the connector. Unlike the PS / 2 port, this does not lead to any unpleasant consequences in the operation of the OS and therefore is not prohibited by computer manufacturers and is not dangerous for operating systems.
Step 3
There are also software ways to disable the mouse. For example, this can be done through Windows Device Manager. To open it in the Seven and Vista versions, right-click on the "Computer" item in the main menu, select "Properties" and in the window that opens, click on the "Device Manager" link.
Step 4
In the manager window, find the section "Mice and other pointing devices" and expand it. If this section contains the line "HID-compatible mouse", right-click it and select the line "Disable" in the context menu. Unfortunately, this is not possible for a mouse connected via the PS / 2 port.
Step 5
Many of the programs whose main purpose is to lock the keyboard can also lock the mouse. For example, the Keylocker utility has settings that allow you to disable the mouse and keyboard separately or simultaneously. If you decide to use it, then download and run the executable file from the page https://cpu-fun.ru/ru/projects/keylocker, this utility does not require installation.
Step 6
The touchpad built into laptop computers, although not a mouse, is functionally designed to replace it. Disabling such a panel - "touchpad" - is assigned a combination of "hot keys", made up of the Fn button and one of the function keys. This key may vary from laptop to laptop, but most often it is F7 or F9. If these options do not work, look for the icon on the function buttons with the image of a square and a finger on its background - this is usually the designation of the key to disable the touch panel.
