If you downloaded a video from a disk or any network resource, it means that the corresponding file has appeared on one of the media on your computer. If, instead of the player screen, you see a prompt to select an application for processing this file type, then the required program is not yet installed on your computer. Find the most suitable video player on the Internet - there are a large number of them and almost all of them are free. To download the selected application, use the manufacturer's website - this will largely protect you from installing programs infected with viruses and spyware. After installing the application, it will be possible to use the playback method described in the first step.

The main problem with video playback today is the sheer number of formats that are used to record them. Each of them requires a separate module - a "codec" - in the player program or in the computer's operating system. If, instead of playing the video, the application displays a message with an error code or information about an unknown data format, you will have to go to the Internet again, now - in search of the missing codec. You can determine which one you need either by the file extension or by the information about the video available in the player program. Enter the known data into a search engine and find a link to the website of the manufacturer of the codec you need. Most often, they are installed in the same way as other programs - download the installation file, run it and follow the instructions of the installation wizard.

Some videos are designed to be played online, that is, through a browser. Typically, the program for playing in these cases is embedded in the web page and is downloaded with it. But sometimes a flash player is enough for playback, which is installed as a plug-in to the browser.
