There are a lot of programs that allow you to rename groups of files in a variety of ways - just renaming a set of files is perhaps the easiest of tasks. Sometimes for this they use, for example, Total Commander. But if you do not have the desire to install a massive multifunctional application for all occasions, a hundredth part of the capabilities of which will never be useful to you, it makes sense to consider more highly specialized programs.

Instructions

Step 1

One of these programs is called Flash Renamer. After installation on the computer, it adds the Start Flash Renamer item to the context menu of the folders - to rename the files in the folder, right-click and select this line.

Step 2

When the program window opens, click the round Numbers button. Here, by default, the Add Counter tab will open. You need to set the renaming mask, that is, indicate how the files should be numbered. Start with the Add counter to Filename section. First, in the Position drop-down list, select where the program should add numbering digits to the file name: First - at the beginning, Last - before the extension point, Overwrite - replace the entire name with a number (the extension will remain). If you have not selected Overwrite, then in the Separator field you can specify a character (or a letter or number) that will separate the number and the current file name (for example, a dash).

Step 3

The rest of the settings are located in the Counter Setup section. In the Start Value field, specify the number from which to start numbering, and in the Step field - what number to add to the current one to create the name of each subsequent file. In the ZeroPad field, leave a checkmark in the Auto checkbox - in this case, the program will itself determine the largest number in the sequence and add the required number of zeros in front of numbers with fewer digits. This format is usually used for preparing files, for example, for sequential playback in a player. If you do not need these zeros, uncheck Auto and enter a zero value. This is the minimum set of settings, besides it the program provides a huge number of options for renaming files.

Step 4

After all the settings are specified, in the list of files in the right field, select the group that you want to rename. Click the Rename button to start the process. The program will open a window where a report on the renaming in progress will be displayed. If any of the files are not available for modification, then you will see the corresponding warnings here. After the end of the process, by closing the window (the Close button), you will be able to cancel the renames made - the button labeled Undo is next to the Rename button.
