Step 1
The most common source of video problems is software that is not updated (or even not installed). For the video to work correctly in normal mode (i.e. viewing a video file on a computer), you need to follow some technical recommendations. First of all, you need to install the drivers for the video card and sound card; you can find the most appropriate versions using the Everest utility. Also, for correct operation, it does not hurt to update the version of DirectX. If you have Windows XP installed, then it is advisable to upgrade it to Service Pack 3.
Step 2
To view the video correctly, it is advisable to install codecs. A universal package like the K-Lite Codec Pack is fine. It still doesn't hurt to install a media player of your choice. It is desirable, of course, one that is often updated, supports all common formats (for example, Light Alloy). Players "standard" or any outdated ones can cause slow video performance. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that when watching a video from a disc, the whole reason may be in the disc and, during braking, it is most likely better to throw this video from the disc to a computer and watch it at normal speed.
Step 3
Sometimes the video slows down or causes errors when watching online. This is usually due to the fact that an old version of the browser is installed (in particular, the standard for Windows XP - Internet Explorer), but sometimes even updating the standard browser does not solve the problem.
