HD video differs from other types of video files in its good image quality. These are usually large files, and computers require more system resources to play them than to play regular avi files.
Necessary
- - the Internet;
- - Haali Media Splitter 1.6.400.11 and Gabest MPEG Splitter 1.0.0.3;
- - FFDSHOW-2006 codecs.
Instructions
Step 1
There are certain requirements for the components that must be installed on your computer in order to view HD-quality video files: at least 512 Mb of RAM, a processor of at least Pentium 4 and a video card with at least 128 Mb of dedicated memory. Download and install the FFDSHOW-2006 codec pack. It contains a complete list of utilities for playing video and sound of any format. Download also the system file ffdshow_Reference.reg for the package, and install it into the operating system registry by double-clicking on the file with the left mouse button.
Step 2
Download and install The Core Media Player 4.11. This player is specially designed to play mkv and mp4 files - common formats for high quality video. Configure the best playback mode for video files by right-clicking on the player area. In the menu, go to the Filter Properties path, the Video Renderer item, the Direct Draw section and uncheck all the checkboxes in the settings window.
Step 3
Download and install Haali Media Splitter 1.6.400.11. This application works with the extensions MP4, MKV, TS, OGM, and plays video files in HDTV resolution. Download and install Gabest MPEG Splitter 1.0.0.3. This player plays HDTV quality MPG (MPEG2 and MPEG1) video files smoothly without the usual jerks.
Step 4
If, when watching a video, you connect a 5.1 audio system to your computer, then you should configure FFDSHOW to play sound in five-channel mode. To do this, go to the Audio Decoder Configuration, Mixer parameters and set "3/2 - 5 channels". There the Dolby Surround / ProLogic setting will be set, which is suitable for headphones and regular speakers. Try to play some high quality files to check the configured settings.
