Necessary

  • - Windows XP disk or virtual disk image;
  • - VirtualBox program.

Instructions

Step 1

To work, you need the VirtualBox program. Download it from the Internet and install it on your computer. After installing the program, restart your computer. You will also need a disk with the Windows XP operating system or its virtual image.

Step 2

Start VirtualBox. In the main menu of the program, select "Machine" - "Create". A window with introductory information will appear. Read on and move on. A line will appear in the next window. Enter the name of the future virtual machine in this line.

Step 3

Click on the arrow next to the line "Operating system" and select Microsoft Windows from the proposed options. Next, click on the arrow next to the "Version" line and select Windows XP. Then proceed further.

Step 4

In the next window, you should select the amount of RAM that will be allocated for Windows XP. Here you need to proceed from the complexity of the tasks for which you plan to use the OS. If your plans include launching games, then it is better not to skimp and allocate at least a gigabyte, if, of course, your computer configuration allows it. To do this, just move the slider. You will see that the amount of memory is changing on the right. When you move the slider to the right, the amount of RAM increases, and to the left, it decreases. Select the required amount of RAM and proceed further.

Step 5

In the next window, check the "Create a new hard drive" item. Proceed further. The Create Virtual Hard Disk Wizard starts. Read the introductory information and move on. In the next window, check the item "Fixed size image". Then select the size of the virtual hard disk. Proceed further and click Finish.

Step 6

You will be returned to the main menu of the program. The left window contains the name of the emulation you created. Select it and click "Start". Next, select the Windows XP source. This is either an optical drive if you will be installing from disk, or a virtual drive if you will be installing from an image. After completing the operation, you will be able to use the Windows XP emulation. To start it, select the created virtual machine from the VirtualBox menu and click "Start".
