To combine two different hard drives into a single unit, a RAID array must be used. The types of connection data are very different from each other. The choice of a suitable array depends on the purpose of its creation.

Step 1
First, examine the specifications of the motherboard used in your computer. Read the instructions carefully. You can also get all the necessary information on the website of the manufacturer of this device or your computer.

Purchase a RAID controller if you are convinced that the motherboard does not support the ability to create an array without an additional device. Connect it to your computer. Select the type of RAID array. Your further actions will completely depend on this.
Step 3
If you have only two hard drives, you can create the following types of arrays: RAID 0 and RAID 1. In the first case, you will get one shared volume, the size of which will be the sum of the parameters of both hard drives. Use this type to create a large local disk.
Step 4
To prevent the loss of important information, create a RAID 1 array. In this case, the total volume of the combined disk will be equal to the size of the smaller hard drive. If one of the hard drives fails, all the necessary information will be saved on the second hard drive.
Step 5
Connect the hard drives to the installed RAID controller or the computer motherboard. Turn on your PC and press the Del key to enter BIOS. Select the Boot Device tab. Find Disk Mode and enable the RAID option. Press the F10 key and save the settings.
Step 6
Reboot your computer. Wait for the settings menu for the synchronous operation of hard drives to appear. Specify the type of the created RAID-array. Select the hard drives to be included in the array. When configuring RAID 0, define the primary hard drive.
Step 7
Save the changes made to the hard drives. Restart your computer again. Proceed with installing a new operating system.
