Step 1
To safely increase the size of your local disk while preserving data, you need the Partition Manager software. Download it and install the application. Be sure to restart your computer for the program to be ready to run.
Step 2
Clear the hard disk partition with which you will expand the desired local volume. The more free space there is on the donor partition, the more you can increase the required local disk. In addition, the presence of a large amount of free space will significantly reduce the time required to complete the operations.
Step 3
Launch Partition Manager and wait for the quick launch menu to load. Select "Advanced user mode" in the window that opens. This operating mode of the program allows you to make all the necessary adjustments when working with hard drives. Click on the "Wizards" tab and select "Redistribute free space" located in the "Additional functions" menu. Click the "Next" button in the window that opens.
Step 4
Examine the graphical display of the state of the hard disk and left-click on the local partition that you want to enlarge. Click "Next". Select the donor section. Check the box next to its name at the top of the menu. It is better to use one section rather than several. This will save you a lot of time. Click "Next".
Step 5
Click on the arrow next to "Specify a new size". Move the slider to set the size of the local disk after expansion. Click "Next". Close the partition preparation window.
Step 6
Click on the "Changes" tab and select "Apply Changes". Confirm the start of the process of reallocating space between local drives. Most likely the program will continue to run in DOS mode.
