Many computer users know how to swap hard drives from two different computers, but this is not always successful. The operating system may simply not boot, or a blue screen may appear. This is due to the inconsistency of the drivers installed on the hard disk with the new configuration of the computer. The system starts the software before the user logs on to Windows, so it is worth uninstalling the drivers before replacing the hard drives.

Necessary

  • - screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • - disks with drivers.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the control panel. Go to the Add / Remove Programs menu, select the "Change or Remove Programs" tab. Find in the list all available drivers on your computer, complete their complete removal. Please note that all the steps related to reinstalling the software of the devices are only required if they were originally installed on the hard disk that you want to replace and / or the operating system was installed on it. If your hard drive does not store any installation files, then you should skip this step.

Step 2

Repeat the previous operation on the computer whose hard drive you want to replace. Shut down both computers, disconnect them from their power supplies.

Step 3

Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, unscrew the fasteners holding the side walls of the system unit. Gently detach both hard drive cables holding them by the bases. Remove the screws holding the hard drive. Repeat the operation on the second computer.

Step 4

Swap the hard drives of computers. Secure their position. Connect them to the power supply unit and the motherboard using the appropriate cables. Screw the case covers, connect computers to power sources.

Step 5

Turn on the computer, and as soon as the numbers appear on the screen, press the F8 key. Your monitor should display a list of operating system boot options. Select Safe Mode. If the system turned on without any problems, then install the appropriate software. You can then boot normally. Repeat this step for the second computer if necessary.

Step 6

If, after completing the described actions, the priority of the system launcher has changed, set the one that is more convenient for you by pressing the Esc key when starting the computer. Next, you will be presented with options for the media from which you can boot Windows, select the appropriate option.
