After switching to the relatively new Windows Seven operating system, many faced a lack of space on the system local drive. To enlarge a partition without formatting it, you need to use certain programs.
Necessary
Partition Manager
Instructions
Step 1
Download the Partition Manager utility. Install the program and restart your computer. Click on the utility shortcut and wait for it to start.
Step 2
On the shortcut menu, select the Power User Mode option. This will allow you to fine-tune your hard drive partitions. There are two ways to increase the size of a volume: by merging several local disks or redistributing space between them.
Step 3
Open the "Wizards" menu. Move the cursor over the Additional Features field. After opening a new menu, select the "Redistribute free space" item.
Step 4
Now select the partition of the local disk that you want to grow. Click the "Next" button and specify the donor section. Remember that only the unallocated space of the donor disk will participate in this process.
Step 5
Click the Next button again and set a new size for the partition to be enlarged. Close the parameters preparation window by clicking the Next button. After returning to the main menu of the program, select the "Changes" tab.
Step 6
Click the Apply Changes button and restart your computer after the new menu appears. The program will perform the necessary operations in DOS mode.
Step 7
If you want to merge two local disks, after starting Partition Manager open the Wizards tab and select Merge Partitions.
Step 8
In the new menu, specify the local drive to which the other partition will be attached. Pay attention to the following nuance: if the system partition of the hard drive will participate in the merge process, be sure to attach another volume to it. Otherwise, the operating system will stop starting.
Step 9
After preparing the sections, click the "Apply pending changes" button and wait until the utility completes.
