Step 1
You can slightly increase the size of the hard disk using the Windows operating system. Press the Win + E keyboard shortcut to open the My Computer menu. Select the hard drive you want to enlarge, right-click on it and select Properties.

In the "Tools" tab, find the item "Compress this disk to save space." Click the "Apply" button and wait for the operation to complete.

To achieve maximum effect, it is recommended to use additional programs. Install the DriveSpace utility 2. Start the program.

Highlight the desired drive, open the Drive menu and select Compress. Press the Start button to start the compression process.

You can increase the size of a partition on a hard disk before installing Windows Seven and Vista operating systems. Insert the installation disc into your drive. Turn on your computer and press the F8 key.

In the window that opens, select your DVD drive and press the Enter key. When the OS installation process comes to selecting a partition, click the "Disk Setup" button. Click "Next". Select the hard disk partition you want to enlarge. Click "Next". Select the partition (or partitions), the free space of which will be used to expand the first logical disk.

Click "Next". Set the size of the future section. Click "Next" again. For the accepted settings to take effect, click the "Apply pending changes" button located in the virtual operations menu. If the system partition is involved in the resizing process, the computer will continue to perform operations in MS-Dos mode.
