When reinstalling the motherboard, it is not at all necessary to reinstall the operating system (OS). You can change the motherboard, leaving Windows fully functional and not wasting time installing a new OS. You just have to reinstall the drivers for some components of the computer, as well as change some settings, but it will still be faster than installing a new operating system.
Necessary
- Computer;
- motherboard;
- access to the Internet;
- drivers for the motherboard chipset;
- drivers for sound and network cards
Instructions
Step 1
Search the internet and download the idedrivers.zip file. The file is archived, so an archiver is required. If you don't have an archiver, download and install it. Extract the entire contents of the file to the System32 Drivers folder. You will be prompted to replace existing files with identical names. Refuse this notice.
Step 2
Download and open a file called Mergeide.reg. In the window that appears, select the "Run" command. This file adds information about IDE controllers to the Windows registry.
Step 3
Now you can safely change the motherboard to a new one. You can do this either yourself or at a service center. After reinstalling the motherboard, turn on the computer. The old version of Windows will start loading. The first Windows boot process may take a little longer, but later on, the boot speed will be normal.
Step 4
Now about the drivers that will have to be reinstalled for sure. Of the main drivers, the drivers for the video card will work. The drivers for the motherboard chipset, sound and network cards will have to be replaced. A driver disc must be included with the motherboard. Just find the necessary drivers on it and install.
Step 5
If you got a motherboard without drivers, you need to do this: right-click on "My Computer". Then select the "Properties" tab, and in it - "Device Manager". Click on the topmost row (system) and select Update Hardware Configuration. Then go to the line "Sound equipment", opposite the line, click on the arrow. A menu of actions with a sound card will open. Click the right mouse button and select the "Update drivers" command. Drivers will be updated via the Internet. Perform the same operation with the network equipment.
