The availability of digital audio content now determines the presence of a large amount of it among many users of personal computers. But, if modern hard drives allow you to store large collections of music, then portable devices, such as mp3 players, have a very limited amount of internal memory. Therefore, it often makes sense to trim an audio file before uploading to a mobile device, thereby significantly reducing its size.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the audio file in Sound Forge Pro editor. To do this, select the "File" and "Open …" items in the main application menu, or press the Ctrl + Alt + F2 or Ctrl + O key combination. In the dialog that appears, change the current directory to the one in which the file is located. Highlight the file in the list. If you need to make sure that this is the desired track, check the "Auto play" checkbox - the recording will start playing automatically. Click the "Open" button.

Step 2

Wait until the data is loaded into the editor and the histogram is plotted. The progress will be displayed by a progress bar located in the status bar of the created document window.

Step 3

Determine the boundaries along which you want to trim the audio file. To do this, listen to the recording using the "Play Normal" button located below the histogram. To navigate through the record, use the scroll bar and the graphic cursor, the position of which can be changed with the mouse.

Step 4

Highlight the beginning of the audio recording that you want to delete. This can be done using the mouse, the markers located above the timeline at the top of the document window, or the "Selection" menu items in the "Edit" section of the main application menu.

Step 5

Delete the selection. In the main menu, select the "Edit" and "Delete" items, or press the Del key.

Step 6

Trim the end of the audio file. Move the horizontal scroll bar all the way to the right. Do the same as described in steps 4 and 5 for the final piece of audio recording.

Step 7

Save the trimmed audio file. Select "File" and "Save As …" from the menu, or press Alt + F2. In the "Save As" dialog that appears, enter a file name and select a directory to place it. In the "File type" drop-down list, specify the format in which the track will be saved. Select an audio compression template from the "Template" drop-down list. If necessary, click the "Custom" button and set arbitrary parameters of the encoder operation. Click the "Save" button.

Step 8

Wait for the end of the process of saving the file. Its progress will be displayed in the document window with a progress indicator. If you wish, you can interrupt the saving process by clicking the "Cancel" button.
