Browsers create copies of visited pages in special folders or in the cache. These temporary files are used to load the page content faster on return visits. They can take up quite a lot of space, so you need to remove them from time to time.
Instructions
Step 1
Temporary file names begin with a tilde character and usually have a.tmp extension. To remove them using Windows, right-click on the logical drive icon and select the "Properties" option from the context menu. In the "General" tab, click the "Clear" button and in the list check all the files you want to delete, including temporary ones.
Step 2
To delete the temporary files of the Internet Exploer browser, to open the context menu, right-click on the IE icon and select the "Properties" item. On the "General" tab in the "Browsing history" section, click "Delete" and in a new window, select the checkboxes of the files from which you want to clean your computer. By clicking the "Options" button, you can adjust the size of the hard disk space allocated for storing temporary files, the name of the folder in which they are contained, and the storage time.
Step 3
To delete temporary files of the Opera browser, go to the "Settings" menu and select the "Delete personal data" command. Expand the Detailed Settings list to select the items to remove. Check the boxes next to the items you want to mark.
Step 4
To delete temporary Mozilla Firefox files, choose the "Options" command from the "Tools" menu. Select the "Clear history when Firefox is closed" checkbox to have the browser delete temporary files after the session ends. Return to the Tools menu and select the Erase Recent History option. Expand the "Details" list and select the checkboxes for the items you want to remove. In the "Clear" window, set the time for which the history will be cleared.
Step 5
Google Chrome temporary files can be deleted from the Options menu. Go to the "Personal materials" tab and click "Delete browsing data". Check the boxes next to the items you want to delete.
