Microsoft developers are sensitive to the problem, which in Russia is called "foolproof." This is probably why they hid the system folders with files from the eyes of users, the change of which can fatally affect the operation of the system. Nevertheless, sometimes the owner of the computer still needs to get full access to the hidden folder.
Instructions
Step 1
To choose a method to get full access to a folder, you need to know the file system on your computer. Double-click the left mouse button to open the "My Computer" icon. To open the context menu, right-click on the icon of the logical drive containing the folder. On the General tab of the Properties dialog box, the Type section will indicate the file system type.
Step 2
If your computer is running Windows XP Professional and the file system is FAT32, go to the "Control Panel". Select the "Tools" menu and the "Folder Options" option. Go to the "View" tab and uncheck the boxes next to the items:
- "Use simple file sharing (recommended)";
- "Hide protected system files (recommended)".
Check the box next to "Show contents of system folders" and click OK to confirm your selection. After that, you can open hidden folders and change their contents.
Step 3
If the NTFS file system is installed on the logical disk, select the checkboxes in the View tab, as described above. Right-click on the system folder icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu. Go to the "Security" tab. Click "Advanced" and go to the "Owner" tab.
Step 4
In the "Name" list, check your account and the "Administrator" account if you are logged in under it. Select the Replace owner of subcontainers check box. Confirm the settings by clicking OK. Answer “Yes” to the system's request to change the permission of the rights. Confirm the changes again by clicking OK.
Step 5
You can get full access to folders in Safe Mode. Reboot your computer. After a short POST beep, press F8. In the "Boot Mode Selection Menu" select "Safe Mode". Answer "Yes" to the question of the system about the continuation of work, otherwise the system recovery process will start. Right-click on the folder icon and select the "Properties" option. In the "Security" tab, use the "Advanced" button to enter the user account who will be granted full access to the folder.
