Backup is used to save operating system files, application programs, and user settings. This is done by a special component of the system in case of malfunctions in which these files and data may be lost. This is a very useful feature, but, unfortunately, storing backups requires a significant amount of space on your computer's storage media. You can turn off backups if necessary.

Instructions

Step 1

You can access the archiving settings through the "Control Panel" - open the main menu of the operating system and in the right column select the item with this name. In the panel, find and activate the link "Computer data archiving" - it is located in the "System and Security" section.

Step 2

There is another way to access this Control Panel applet, which is using the built-in search engine of Windows 7 and Vista. Click on the "Start" button or press the Win key and type three letters "arch". Then press the Enter key or click on the top link in the search results list? After that, the required applet will be launched.

Step 3

The third method can be used if you have a Windows file manager - "Explorer" window open. Right-click on the icon of any local disk and select the "Properties" line from the pop-up context menu. On the "Service" tab of the window that opens, click the "Archive" button, and a window of the same control panel applet will appear on the screen.

Step 4

If in the loaded window of the applet you find the inscription "Data archiving is not configured", then there is nothing to worry about - this option in your system settings is either already disabled or has never been enabled. Otherwise, click on the "Disable Schedule" link in the upper left corner of the window and after a moment's thought the applet will exclude the backup from the list of tasks scheduled for execution.

Step 5

It is possible to disable backup for a particular disk. To do this, first press the Win + Pause key combination, and then click on the "System Protection" link. In the Security Settings list, select the drive you want and click the Configure button. Another window will open in which you need to either check the box "Disable system protection", or move the slider next to the inscription "Maximum use" to the extreme left position. Then close both settings windows by clicking the OK button.
