Patches, or "patches" - are special add-ons for programs, in particular for computer games, released by developers. They fix various technical and other software problems. For games, add-ons are installed in various ways.
Instructions
Step 1
Download the patch from the official site of the game or its developers. Before that, see what version of the game is at the moment. Typically, this information is listed in the properties of its executable file or in the main menu. The version of the patch to be installed must be higher.
Step 2
Run the patch installation file and go through the installation process. During it, specify the folder where the game is installed. When the process is complete, restart your computer. Try to launch the game and test it to see if it works. Also see if its current version has changed. If the game has stopped starting or other problems occur during operation, try reinstalling it, thereby rolling back to the previous version.
Step 3
Some patches provide for manual installation. For example, developers release an already patched executable file of the game or other components of it. In this case, you usually need to move these files to the appropriate folders where their previous versions are located, and replace them with new ones. Before doing this, copy the old versions of the specified files to another folder, so that in case of problems, you can roll back the data in the game folder.
Step 4
Examine the game folder, installation disc, and developer site. In some cases, to install patches, you need to install on your computer and run a special application that will drop the patch into the necessary folders. After starting the "patcher" utility, specify the path to the patch files and to the game folder, and then wait for the installation process to finish.
Step 5
In some cases, the game is updated automatically when you launch it. To do this, make sure you have an active internet connection and close all extraneous programs. Also check the main menu of the game for a special section for receiving and installing updates.
