Instructions

Step 1

For some, it is convenient to keep folders on the desktop containing various files and documents. Although, as a rule, it is better to store important, voluminous information on the D drive, and leave the necessary shortcuts on the desktop.

If the standard view of Windows folders does not suit you, is inconvenient, you can always change them.

Step 2

Hover your mouse over any folder on your desktop. Right-click on the folder you want to change the icon for. In the context menu that appears, select the lowest item "Properties". In the window that appears, select the "Settings" tab. On this tab, click the Change Icon button. A small "Change Icon for So and So folder" window will open.

Step 3

Windows will offer you a specific set of folder icons to choose from, containing shutdown buttons, question marks, locks, arrows, and more.

With the left mouse button, select the icon that is most suitable for you, corresponding to the contents of the folder. Click Ok> Apply> Ok. Now you have a convenient folder icon on your desktop.

Step 4

If it becomes irrelevant over time, you can always bring the classic look of the folder icon back. To do this, follow all the above steps and in the icon change window, click the "Restore defaults" button, then again "Ok"> "Apply"> "Ok".

Step 5

You can also change the font used for the folder name (i.e., the inscription under them). But it must be borne in mind that the font can be changed only for all icons, shortcuts, desktop files.

Step 6

Right click on the desktop. Select Properties> Appearance tab> Advanced button. In the window "Additional design" you will see the item "Element" in the drop-down list of which you are asked to select the desktop component that you want to change. In our case, this is the "Icon" item. Next, select a font that is convenient for you, its size and click "Ok"> "Apply"> "Ok".
