Folders and files in the form of pictures or icons make the information on your computer easier to read. The user begins to quickly navigate the desktop, inside system and personal folders, as well as in the interface of external connected devices - flash drives, laser disks and floppy disks. Labels not only decorate the appearance of folders, but are also remembered for a long time for future work. The operating system has a service on how to change the appearance of icons.

Instructions

Step 1

Click on the selected folder with the right mouse button. In the service list that appears, select the bottom command "Properties". A working window of the folder will open, where you can see its general characteristics - type, location on the hard disk, size in bytes, number of files contained and other attributes. You will also be able to manage local and network access to the folder, responsible for its security. You will need the very last tab of the Properties window, since it is there that you can change the appearance of the icons. This tab is called "Settings". Follow it.

Step 2

The top field has the heading "Select the appropriate folder type". There you can customize and apply suitable templates for the folder, such as Documents, Pictures, Photo Album, Artist, Music or Videos. In accordance with the type of folder, you will need to set the required type of folder icon - an icon (in other words - a shortcut). You can change the icons as you like, unless the folder is in thumbnail (picture) mode. In order to change the shortcut to another, go to the bottom field "Folder icons". Click the Change Icon button.

Step 3

You will see another small window with the name "Change the icon for the folder … (the name of this folder is indicated below)". At the top of the window there is a search box for icons in system files. You will need to enter a file name and click on the "Browse" button to find and download the required shortcut. Most often, users use the bottom window with a scroll bar "Select an icon from the following list." It is very convenient in terms of clarity. Just select the icon you like, for example, the image of a laser disk, a tree with a green crown, a yellow star or a fluttering butterfly and click "Ok". After that, the appearance of the folder shortcut will change.
