Archiving data allows you to compress information, thereby making the file capacity smaller. For many users, this feature will seem unnecessary, because the capacity of modern hard drives is measured in terabytes. In fact, data archiving is often very much in demand, for example, if data needs to be sent by e-mail. Or, for example, you have a need to write files to a disk or reset to a USB flash drive, and the capacity of the files exceeds the capacity of the storage media.
Necessary
- - Computer with Windows OS;
- - WinRAR program.
Instructions
Step 1
In Windows operating systems, it is possible to archive data without installing special programs. In order to archive data, you need to right-click on the file or folder that you want to archive, and then in the context menu that appears, point to the "Send" command. Next, in the list that appears, select "Compressed zip folder". The archive will be saved in the same folder as the original file. The disadvantages of this method of archiving include a weak compression percentage, the inability to set the necessary archiving parameters.
Step 2
WinRAR is a very convenient program for data archiving. This program can be easily found on the Internet. Download one of the latest versions and install it on your computer hard drive. There are now several ways to back up your data.
Step 3
The latest versions of WinRAR are integrated into the operating system. When you click on a file with the right mouse button, then in addition to all the standard commands in the context menu, you should see the "Add to archive" command. Just right click on the file and click on this command. A window will appear where you can select additional compression options, for example, the compression method ZIP or RAR, create backups, etc. In the "Advanced" tab, you can set a password for the archive.
Step 4
There is also another way to archive data. It is suitable if you do not have the "Add to archive" command in the context menu. Although if you are using the latest versions of the program, then this should not happen. But anything can happen. Start WinRAR. Select "Wizard" from the menu. Then check the box "Create a new archive" and move on. A window will appear in which you select the data for archiving and proceed further. In the window, you can select the compression level and set a password. Then select "Finish". The data will be archived.
