From time to time, the owner of a personal computer faces the need to determine its hardware configuration. It is good if there is technical documentation in which the components and their technical characteristics are listed in detail. If there is no such documentation, you have to act differently: for example, open the case of the system unit and examine its contents.
Instructions
Step 1
If there is no desire or opportunity to disassemble the system unit, you can determine the configuration of the computer using Windows tools or using third-party programs. From the Start menu, select All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. After a while, the utility will display a file containing various information about the configuration of your computer.
You can get this report in another way. From the start menu, choose Run and enter the name of the msinfo32 utility in the Open field. Press the OK button to confirm. You can save the report as a text file. To do this, select the "File" and "Export" items in the main menu. Specify the folder where you will save the report.
Step 2
If your computer is running Windows, DirectX is installed on it. With it, you can get information about the configuration of your computer. From the Start menu, click Run and type dxdiag in the Open box. Click OK to confirm your entry. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool window appears. The System tab contains information about the configuration of your computer. On other tabs, you can get more detailed information about the operation of the system unit.
Step 3
Right click on the My Computer icon. In the drop-down list, select the "Properties" option. In the System Properties window, go to the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. The Device Manager window lists the devices installed on your computer. In order to get detailed information about the operation of the device, right-click on its name and select the "Properties" option in the drop-down list.
Step 4
You can find out the configuration of your computer using third-party programs such as SiSoftware Sandra or Everest. Both programs have a friendly Russian-language interface. New versions of programs are shareware, old ones are free. For an overview of the configuration of your computer, click the Computer and Summary icon in Everest and Summary information in Sandra. More detailed information about the operation of each of the devices can be obtained by selecting the corresponding icon.
