Most often, a microphone is used as an external signal source for recording on a computer. It can be built into any peripheral device (for example, a camera), or connected directly to the microphone input. The Windows operating system has several components that allow you to change the input level from the microphone and thereby increase or decrease the recording volume.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the "Control Panel" using the corresponding link in the main Windows menu, opened by clicking on the "Start" button. If you are using the XP version of this operating system, then select the component "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the "Panel", and when it starts - go to the contents of the "Audio" tab. In the drop-down list of the "Sound recording" section, you need to select the default device, and then click on the "Volume" button.

Step 2

In the "Microphone" section, set the desired value using the slider and close the window by clicking the OK button. Click the same button in the other two open windows.

Step 3

If you are using Windows 7, then in the Control Panel you need to look for another link - "Sound". Click on it, and a window will open in which you should be interested in the "Recording" tab. This tab contains a list of devices connected to the computer that have built-in microphones (headset, camera, etc.), as well as microphone inputs. Select the device from which you want to make the recording louder, and then click the "Properties" button located under the list of devices.

Step 4

On the "Levels" tab of the window that opens, set the values you need and click on the OK button. Press the OK buttons in the other two open windows.

Step 5

Another way to increase the recording volume is provided by the sound card driver. Its icon should be present in the system tray on the taskbar - double click on it to access the sound settings. The design of this component depends on the sound card you are using. If it is Realtek HD, then go to the Microphone tab and set the correct settings for the spatial orientation of the microphone and noise reduction. Then, on the “Mixer” tab, open the drop-down list in the “Recording” section, select the required device and adjust the level of the microphone input signal.
