While working on a computer, sometimes it becomes necessary to change the size of folders and files: both external and actual. Usually this can be done by means of the operating system itself, or with the help of additional software.

Instructions

Step 1

A single folder often contains many subfolders, which are easier to navigate when their icons are smaller. Conversely, in case of poor vision, they should be made larger. On Windows operating systems, the appearance of folders (and other icons) can be controlled from the top toolbar. Go to the folder, click the "View" tab and choose one of the ways to display the icons in the folder. If you select Thumbnails, the folder icons are large and partially display their contents. With the Tile method, the icons will be medium in size, arranged in several columns by file type and alphabetically. With the Icon method, the icons will be smaller and equidistant from each other. With the "List" method, the icons will be small and arranged in rows. In the "Table" display mode, small icons will be arranged in one column, and information about the file type, their size and modification date will be displayed on the right. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can resize the desktop icons and in any folder by scrolling to or from the mouse wheel pressed.

Step 2

The size of folders can be changed not only externally, but also in fact. For example, you can reduce their size so that there is more free space on your hard drive. This is especially true if the folders contain movies, music, and pictures. Take advantage of the information compression function. To reduce the size of a folder, right-click on its icon, select "Properties" - "General" - "Others". Check the box next to "Compress content to save disk space." Remember: the compression function is only available if the disk is formatted for the NTFS file system.

Step 3

If your disk is formatted with the FAT32 file system, you can use other compression methods. Install an archiving program (such as WinRar) on your computer. Folders and files are easy to add to and extract from the archive. Archive those folders that you rarely access. To do this, right-click on the folder, select "Add to archive".
