There are situations when it is necessary for several users to provide access to some documents or files. For example, if your office staff must work with the same updatable customer base. Or when orders and instructions are added to a common folder for review. Sharing files and folders is not that difficult.

Instructions

Step 1

In the Windows environment, a special interface called Simple File Sharing has been created that allows multiple users to share access to a file (folder) located on one computer at once. Select the folder to which you want to set up sharing, right-click on it, and a pop-up menu will open. Select "Sharing and Security". In the dialog box that opens, check the box next to the "Share this folder" option. In the "Share" field, specify the name of the folder under which users will see it on the network. It may differ from the local folder name. Next, set your own access options, including the ability for users to make changes to the files in this folder.

Step 2

Configure access levels (permission types): full, when users can perform any actions on the shared folder, a level at which users can change the contents of files, and a level at which users can only view public files. Please note that it is the last level that is assigned by the system by default.

Step 3

To configure access to a specific file, select the "Security" tab in the file properties. There you will see a list of users who already have access to this file (if any). You can modify this list by changing user access to the file - add them, delete them, change permissions. On the tab, you will see two fields - "Groups" and "Users", in which the list of users who have shared access to the file actually changes. At the bottom of the window, you can change the option - by checking and unchecking the box next to the "Deny" or "Allow" options. Please note that even if the permission is not clearly defined, this does not mean that access to the file is denied - it may be allowed by the settings of the parent folder. To deny access, check the box next to the required option.
