Many applications voice events that occur during their work, use background music, and some even give advice to the user or comment on his actions by voice. Most of these programs have an option in their settings that turns off the soundtrack. If such an installation is not provided by the manufacturer or for some reason it is undesirable to use it, you can do with the built-in tools of the Windows operating system.

Instructions

Step 1

Start the program whose sounds you want to mute and bring up the operating system mixer on the screen. In Windows 7 and Vista, this is easiest to do by using the volume setting icon in the notification area of the taskbar. Find this icon - a white stylized speaker - in the lower right corner of the screen, left-click once and click on the "Mixer" label under the volume slider.

Step 2

The general volume control is duplicated in the left column of the mixer window, and the system sound level control is placed to the right of it. All other columns have similar sliders to control the sound level of other currently open programs - find the one you want. You can move the slider related to this application to the minimum mark or click on the blue speaker icon under the knob - both options will turn off the program sounds.

Step 3

Another method can be used if the program during installation "registers" its sounds in the operating system registry. Then they can be disabled by making changes to the registry using one of the OS components. To get to it, open the main menu and call the "Control Panel" by clicking on the item with this name. In the panel, go to the "Hardware and Sound" section and click on the "Change system sounds" link. You can also call this component using the OS search engine - press Win, type "sound" and click on the "Change system sounds" link in the list of search results.

Step 4

In the table under the heading "Program events" of the window that opens, find the section related to the required program and select one of the sounds. Then open the drop-down list under the table and select the top line in it - "No". Repeat this operation for all events sounded by this program. Then click OK and the task will be completed.
