This happens as a result of using an Internet browser, creating other text documents, anti-virus scanning, etc. Files are dead weight, taking up precious disk space and interfering with the normal operation of the computer.

There are two ways to clear the PC memory: using a special program or on your own. The second option is good for advanced users who understand what files can be deleted without compromising the integrity of the operating system.

If you decide to trust the cleaner program, then Windows provides this opportunity in its standard software package. Go to "Start" -> "All Programs" -> "System Tools" or "System and Security" -> "Administration" -> "Freeing up disk space".

Please note that the standard cleaning program has no settings, so when you start it, you will only see a slider on the screen that counts the percentage. It makes sense to use additional software, for example, the free CCleaner program, which allows you to change the parameters, and also deletes the history of search queries in the virtual network.

Choose the second method for self-cleaning if you want to be sure of the result. Then you need knowledge about the types of junk files and where to look for them. The first collection of "waste" is, of course, "Trash". Files are sent to it after you select the Delete command, so they still take up disk space. Click "Empty Trash".

Delete the temporary internet files, but be careful to review them first. Every time you open a new site, bookmark or enter a password, the information is saved. Decide which virtual pages you will still visit. You can recognize them by the file name, and to see the entire list, open the Internet properties.

Get rid of documents with the chk extension that appear as a result of the antivirus. Since this program works on a daily basis, they are also created on a permanent basis and are located in the main directory of the hard disk. In addition, there are also various reports such as log, txt, etc., which take up a lot of space - they should also be deleted.

As soon as you open any program, the system immediately generates temporary files. They usually disappear on their own as soon as you close it, but remain in case of a crash or abnormal termination. Their repository is the root directory or the corresponding section in the Program Files folder.

Check backed up documents, they contain the "~" icon and the extension old, bak, etc. in their name. Pay attention to the time and date of creation, remove only old files, otherwise you can invade an unfinished process and thereby harm your computer.
