It is recommended to clean the laptop memory at least once a month. For 30 days of work and entertainment, the so-called file junk accumulates, which is created not only by the user, but also by the computer itself during work. These files take up more and more disk space, and now the usual volume is not enough for everyday work. Therefore, do not forget to regularly arrange your "notebook" hygiene procedures.
Instructions
Step 1
During the work in the laptop, a certain number of files accumulate, which are not of any use, but only clog the computer's memory, interfering with the normal functioning of programs and confusing the user himself. To properly clear laptop memory, you need to understand the types of unnecessary files and where they are stored.
Step 2
The most obvious file junk store is, of course, the Recycle Bin. It is a temporary haven for files that are likely to be no longer needed. The next type of files are temporary Internet files. You do not need to delete all of them, as they speed up access to frequently visited pages, but once a month there will most likely be a couple of hundred files that you no longer need. This can be understood by the names.
Step 3
Delete files with the chk extension, they are created by the antivirus program during disk scanning. They are stored in the "root" directory of the hard drive. These are the so-called lost cluster files. Get rid of error reports and memory dumps that take up a lot of disk space.
Step 4
Temporary files are created when any program of the operating system is started. In theory, they should be deleted immediately after its completion, but sometimes they remain in place due to a failure or lack of work by the creators.
Step 5
Another type of files that can be deleted are document backups. These are almost all files that have a ~ - "tilde" sign in their name. As a rule, these are files with the bak, old, wbk, etc. extensions. However, be careful not to delete files that are still in operation, otherwise the program will crash and unsaved documents cannot be recovered.
Step 6
Use a special "cleaner" program if you are afraid to harm your laptop. Such a program is included in any Windows operating system. It can be accessed through "Start" -> "All Programs" -> "Standard" -> "System Tools". You can also go to it by following the link "System and Security" -> "Administration" -> "Freeing up disk space".
Step 7
Cleaning programs allow you to set additional settings, thanks to which you can avoid losing important files. You can use a third-party program like CCleaner, which is free. This program is more gentle on files, in addition, it can clean up the history of your online presence, including the history of searches and visits to sites. It also has configurable settings.
