Any photographs to some extent contain distortions due to the tilt of the camera or the properties of its optical system. Sometimes such defects are almost invisible, and sometimes they are very striking. You can align the photo using the tools of the graphics editor Adobe Photoshop.

Necessary

  • - Adobe Photoshop;
  • - a file with the original photo.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the photo you want to align in Photoshop. Click on the File item in the main menu, select the "Open …" item. You can also use the Ctrl + O keys. Specify the photo file in the dialog that appears, click OK.

Step 2

Change the type of the current layer. In the Layer section of the main menu, highlight the New item. Select "Layer From Background …". A dialogue will appear. Click the OK button in it.

Step 3

Increase the canvas size if you plan to rotate the photo. In the Image section of the main menu, select "Canvas Size …" or press Ctrl + Alt + C. In the dialog that appears, change the Width and Height parameters. Click OK.

Step 4

Align the photo by rotating. This method is suitable if the image does not have any other (for example, perspective) distortions. Select Edit, Transform and Rotate from the menu. Moving the corners of the frame that appears, set the desired position of the photo. Double click on the image to apply the changes.

Step 5

If the photo needs to be aligned in a complex way, for example, to change the slope of the horizon, while correcting the horizontal and vertical perspective, as well as removing curvilinear and edge distortion, activate the Lens Correction filter. Select the correspondingly named item in the Distort section of the Filter menu. A dialogue will be displayed. Activate the Preview and Show Grid options in it. Press the Zoom Tool button, and then select a convenient scale for viewing the image.

Step 6

Adjust the parameters of the filter. Adjust the angle of the photo by rotating the arrow of the Angle control. Remove perspective distortion by changing the Vertical Perspective and Horizontal Perspective parameters. Straighten non-linear distortions by varying the values of the Remove Distortion parameter. As you work, be guided by the grid lines in the preview pane. Apply the filter by clicking OK.

Step 7

Crop the modified image. Activate the Crop tool. Create an initial selection area for them. Then, by moving the edges of the frame, adjust its size. Double click on the inside of the frame to crop.

Step 8

Save the photo. From the File menu, choose "Save As …", or press Ctrl + O. Specify the required file format, its name and the directory where it will be placed. Click the Save button.
